Song of The Data Angel

AUT and composer/performer ensemble, Current Resonance, present 𝑺𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑫𝒂𝒕𝒂 𝑨𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒍, a concert of experimental music that combines
influences from Japanese pop culture and otaku media (anime, manga, arcades, visual novels) with contemporary classical music. The program
profiles the Japanese composers Yuri Umemoto (b.2002) and Akiko Yamane (b.1982), whose work is played in Denmark for the first time.

The pieces by Yuri Umemoto integrate the aesthetics of moe (anime) and techniques from otaku media (e.g. superimposed scrolling text,
looping videos) with post-minimal and conceptual music. The pieces by Akiko Yamane showcase the inherent musicality of Japanese arcades
and pachinko parlours, as well as the baroque ornamentation of shojo manga. The back half of the program features doujinshi pieces
(fan-made spinoffs) of Umemoto’s work that members off the ensemble have realized according to Umemoto’s instructions for creating
“fake music”. The concert concludes with a pair of works that engage with the representation of cuteness, Michael Hope’s 𝙉𝙄𝘾𝙀 𝙁𝘼𝘾𝙀 and
Yamane’s 𝙆𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙞𝙞 😉.

Current Resonance is joined by musicians Anna Jalving (violin/viola) and Malthe Volfing (cello).
The premiere of Dylan Richards’ Tokyo Trip, a 2-hour travel vlog video will take place at Musikhuset Aarhus on the night following the concert (25/3, Monday).
